The DTV – Direction Tsiganes et Voyageurs (Gypsies and Travellers Department) of the association La Sauvegarde du Nord is responsible for supporting families living in Traveller reception areas. For example, by encouraging children to enjoy reading and to want to go to school and learn to read.
Thanks to funding from the Pas-de-Calais REAAP (Réseau d’Écoute, d’Appui et d’Accompagnement des Parents – Listening, Support and Accompaniment Network for Parents), reading sessions are offered every fortnight by Lis avec Moi.
These sessions have been taking place since 2019 in Béthune, 2021 in Bruay-la-Buissière and 2023 in Libercourt.

Over the years, these children have built up an extensive cultural knowledge of children’s books. Each child and each group has its own favourite books.

So the idea came up to create a special prize, associated with this booklet, to share these readings between the groups and keep a record of them.

The children organised the entire prize, from selection to voting, according to different categories. The choice was made to define them according to reading difficulty rather than age. In fact, some books, such as picture books, game books and nursery rhymes, have been very popular with children of all ages!

Through the creation of this prize, the children have expressed their taste and their curiosity about very different books, but also their desire to discover more and more!
